Sunday Snippets – A Catholic Carnival

Thanks to RAnn at This That and the Other Thing for hosting this Sunday meme. How about joining all of us over there?

First, Happy New Year to all my readers. Regardless of what the future brings, let us bless the Lord in everything.

This week I have two posts to offer:

Was Mary Really an Unwed Mother? If the Renaissance painters could “get it”, what’s the matter with us today?

Sabbath Moments is where I write about Christian mortification and list some of Cardinal Mercier’s recommendations with a link to his treatise on the subject. (Don’t worry. It’s short but very thought-provoking.) Trying to avoid mortification is un-Biblical. We can do it with joy so we do not appear as the Pharisees.

  1. I think most of us shrink away from the many opportunities we have to receive grace. Thank you for the reminder, for this reflection and for the link to the good Cardinal’s teaching. I intend to make this the focus of my study and reflection this week.

  3. Me, too. And for weeks to come. I’ve gotten too soft and need to ramp things up a bit.
