Sunday Snippets – A Catholic Carnival

Welcome to RAnn’s Sunday meme. Come join us at This That and the Other Thing.

This week RAnn is starting something new. All participants are invited to answer a question of the week. It’s not obligatory, but it can be fun and a way to add a little to our blog roundup. Today’s task is to tell a little about ourselves.

I’m a 60++ woman with a varied career and a lifelong Catholic who spent many years outside the Church. By God’s grace I’m a revert and glad of it! I worked 3 part time jobs and was a full time college student. When I graduated I ended up working in the St. Louis ghetto for 5 1/2 years, then many years as an organization development consultant both within a couple of Fortune 500 companies and then with my own business. My husband and I started a photography business which we moved from Nebraska to southwest Missouri. We closed it when he became disabled and when I became disabled I gave up my part time consulting. Now I teach beginning Latin to homeschoolers and sometimes piano. We both like gardening and puttering in the yard. In 1999 I founded an Una Voce chapter to bring the Extraordinary Form of the Mass to our diocese, but it wasn’t until Pope Benedict gave us Summorum Pontificum that we finally got access to it. Blogging mostly about Catholic spirituality is my hobby.

This week my only post is a Sabbath Moments post. In it I mention that Amazon is dropping me as an associate effective some time in September. If any readers would like to do me a favor, you can order something you need through the sidebar link so I can get a final pittance of at least $10 before it all ends. I’d really appreciate it.

  1. Wow, Barb, I am impressed that you were able to work three part-time jobs while going to school full-time. I have a hard time just juggling my classes and homeschooling Andrew!

How do you like teaching Latin to homeschoolers?

  3. I love teaching Latin. It’s beginning Latin so we aren’t doing anything really complex, but it will prepare them to start on any of the Romance languages in a year or so.

Yeah, the 3 part time jobs and full time schooling was really hard. I’ve never had the luxury of getting higher education by going as a full time student without working. I was working in the St. Louis ghetto during the year and a half getting my Master’s degree. Ah, youth! This old lady is about all used up.
