Sunday Snippets – A Catholic Carnival

August 26, 2012

Welcome to Sunday Snippets, the Sunday meme hosted by RAnn at This That and the Other Thing.  Be sure to visit her to read other good posts from Catholic writers.

This week I have three offerings: Progress in Fraternal Charity, St. Philip Benizi,  and Sabbath Moments.   Check them out for links to recommended sites, a Chaplet of the Immaculate Conception, and a new recommendation for quick spiritual reading.

In recent days I’ve been inundated with an enormous amount of spam from a couple of  IPs with a Russian email address and the name “Abdula”, all from google.com.  I’ve tried to block it from the moderation queue but so far have been unsuccessful.  This is a privately hosted WordPress blog so if anyone has any ideas to help me rid myself of these fleas, I’d be most grateful.  My comments use SI Captcha and I’ve set it as complicated as I can get it, so for sure a human being is doing the mischief.  Does anyone know if I can complain to Google and how?  I’d love to be able to press a “zap” button and fry the IP source.

God bless all my readers.

  5. I had a problem like that with Cyrillic spam–dozens of comments a day, and all the comments were dozens of lines long. It was awful. I had to wade through it b/c every once in a while a real comment goes to spam, so I couldn’t just empty the whole folder randomly.

The best solution I came up with was to find a word or phrase that was in every one of those–it sounds like Abdullah may be a good one for you–and do a search of comments. That put them in concentrated form on one page and allowed me to select all and delete, instead of having to scroll and scroll and scroll looking for them.

  7. Thanks, Kathleen. Last night shortly before 11:00 p.m. I turned off the combox on the post they were using. Today there are none so it must have worked.
